Who is behind CoolyJapan? Is this actually Japanese?
Yes — completely. CoolyJapan is founded and curated by F. Matsumoto, a Japanese national holding a PhD in Philosophy and Religious Studies. He currently teaches professional ethics at an international university in Thailand, and has spent his academic career studying Japanese art history, Edo-period painting, and Zen philosophy.
Every design begins with genuine cultural research — verified Edo-period masterworks, documented philosophical sources, real Japanese stories. When you buy from CoolyJapan, you are buying something authentic, meaningful, and created with deep scholarly respect for its source.
This is real Japan. Not tourist merch.
What quality are the t-shirts? What blanks do you use?
We are uncompromising about the blank. Our tees are printed on two of the most trusted blanks in the premium apparel industry:
Bella+Canvas 3001 — The gold standard for soft, fitted unisex tees. Ring-spun combed cotton, incredibly soft, holds colour beautifully wash after wash. Used for most of our core designs including the Museum Series and Hana flower collections.
Gildan 5000 — Classic, durable, heavier-weight cotton. Relaxed fit, built to last. Used for select designs where a bolder streetwear silhouette suits the artwork.
Occasionally I use Gildan 6400 for those who prefer cheaper and yet still good quality and durability materials.
All prints use Direct-to-Garment (DTG) technology — vivid, wash-resistant ink applied directly into the fabric fibres. The result is a print that moves with the shirt and lasts without cracking or peeling.
Where are products made and how long does shipping take?
CoolyJapan is a Japan-founded, globally-fulfilled brand. Our designs are created in Japan and Thailand. Production is fulfilled on-demand through trusted print facilities in the United States — your order is printed and shipped the moment you place it. No pre-made inventory. No waste.
United States: 2–5 business days production + 3–5 days shipping = typically 5–10 business days total.
International (UK, EU, Australia, Japan): 2–5 days production + 7–21 days shipping depending on destination.
Every order receives a tracking number by email as soon as it ships. If your order has not arrived within the estimated window, contact us and we will resolve it personally.
Are these designs truly authentic? How are they verified?
This is the question we take most seriously. Every CoolyJapan design is personally reviewed by our founder — a PhD researcher with specialist knowledge in Japanese art history and Edo-period painting.
For our Museum Series, artworks are sourced from documented Edo masters — Katsushika Hokusai, Mori Sosen, Korin Ogata, Ganku Kishi — and cross-referenced against museum catalogues before going to print.
For our Philosophy Series, every quote is verified against primary sources. If a quote cannot be confirmed as authentic, it does not appear on a CoolyJapan tee — regardless of how widely-shared it may be online.
We would rather have fewer designs than dishonest ones.
