Now Raijin answers.\n\nThis is a museum-quality framed canvas reproduction \nof Raijin (雷神) — the Thunder God — from the \nlegendary folding screen pair 風神雷神図 \n(Fūjin Raijin-zu) by Ogata Kōrin (尾形光琳, \n1658–1716), one of the supreme masterpieces of \nEdo-period Japanese painting and an Important \nCultural Property of Japan, held in the permanent \ncollection of the Tokyo National Museum \n(Collection Reference: A-11189-1).\n\n━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━\n\n𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸\n\nRaijin — God of Thunder, Lightning, and Storms — \ncrouches at the edge of the gold ground, his ring \nof drums surrounding him like a crown of noise. \nHis red body blazes. His expression holds no \ncruelty and no mercy — only the pure, impersonal \nforce of the storm itself.\n\nKōrin placed him at the far corner of the screen, \ndiagonal to Fūjin, so that the two gods face each \nother across an open field of gold that hums with \ninvisible energy. As the novelist Yukio Mishima \nobserved, this placement creates a tension that \nis almost unbearable — the negative space between \nwind and thunder charged with everything that has \nnot yet happened.\n\nAlone, Raijin commands any wall he occupies.\nPaired with Fūjin, he becomes half of one of \nthe most powerful artistic conversations in \n300 years of Japanese painting.\n\n━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━\n\n𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘃𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙ū𝗷𝗶𝗻 — 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗿\n\nKōrin never painted Raijin without Fūjin.\nThe original screens face each other — Wind on \none side, Thunder on the other — and the \nelectricity between them is the real subject \nof the work. They are not two paintings. \nThey are one statement, split in two.\n\nThe Fūjin companion canvas is available in our \nshop. Hung side by side, they recreate the full \ncompositional force of Kōrin's original screens \nexactly as he intended — and exactly as they \nhang today in the Tokyo National Museum.\n\nIf you are choosing just one, Raijin is complete \nand striking on his own. But if you have the \nwall for both — you will always know something \nis missing with only one.\n\n━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━\n\n𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗴𝗲\n\nThree of Japan's greatest painters — Tawaraya \nSōtatsu, Ogata Kōrin, and Sakai Hōitsu — each \ncreated their own version of Fūjin and Raijin \nacross three centuries. All three were displayed \ntogether for the first time in 75 years at the \nKyoto National Museum in 2015. To own Kōrin's \nversion is to hold a thread in the longest \nartistic conversation in Japanese history.\n\n━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━\n\n𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻\n\nCurated and verified by F.
